Changing Washington One State at a Time

Home Page

Evidence suggests that King George III had a higher approval rating in 1776 than the standing Congress does today. The American Citizen has lost confidence in Washington. I do not see Washington changing the fundamental way it governs without a grassroots movement. Currently, the progressives are pushing for a Campaign Finance Reform Amendment (CFRA). The conservatives are pushing for a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA). Many independents want both of these amendments along with Term Limits Amendment (TLA). I think the only way to change Washington is if all three of these groups get together with a united front to push the state legislatures to call for a convention to propose amendments to the Constitution. It will take the independents and moderates of both parties to make this happen. In my novel, Capitol Bypass, I present one plausible path to accomplish this daunting task. It will take a concerted effort of all parties to accomplish.

So, as I see it there are a couple of views that American's have regarding our governing class:

  • You are happy with Washington and think everything is working good enough.  We just need to elect more ethical politicians. You make up that ten percent in the latest poll.
  • You just don’t think it has gotten “bad enough” to do any thing.

If you are in this group that is satisfied with Washington there is nothing I can say, so I won’t.

If you are in favor of one or more
of the above amendments and you think that congress will do the right thing I’m at a loss for words, and if you know me, that is difficult. I guess I would say they haven’t done it in over 200 years so… Come back when it gets BAD ENOUGH.

Or, you are in the following group:

  • You think there is injustice in congress; corruption by lobbyist and lack of fiscal responsibilityThe only way to fundamentally change (dissent) Washington is for the state legislatures to call for a convention to propose amendments, but you don't know much about the process.

Please educate (action) yourself by reading more about it. Whether it is on-line, reading my constitutionally correct novel, Capitol Bypass (or other books) or sign up for a free newsletter.

Hamilton, Madison and Mason inserted these twenty words into Article Five of our Constitution for this very reason and this very time (transform).

Article Five of the Constitution

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments

Thanks
